VAMO V3 Review: Affordable Variable Wattage Vaping

Review Overview

Look / Feel
Vapor Production

If you can get over the fact that the VAMO V3 may not be the prettiest mod, then I think you'll be more than satisfied with it. It may not be for everyone, but if you want a powerhouse mod that's extremely affordable, then the VAMO V3 is the way to go.

Update: I have recently found a US e-cig dealer that sells VAMOs, as well as some other awesome mods. The shipping times should be much faster than FastTech for us folks in the States. It is going to run you slightly more, but that’s a trade-off you’ll have to decide whether or not to take.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on getting a new mod the a while back. I decided I would use it for a while before I wrote up a review or made a video. That way I could have a better idea of how it performs.

The VAMO V3 is somewhat controversial in the electronic cigarette community. It’s not so much the functionality of it, it’s the design. I know several people who said they wouldn’t get one just because they thought it looked atrocious.

I’m not going to lie, the VAMO V3 isn’t going to win any beauty pageants, but it’s  solid mod that gets the job done. Luckily, there are awesome accessories like J-Wraps available. Slap on a wrap and it’s a whole new mod! Mine currently has a R2-D2 wrap on it. (Looks awesome!)

Look / Feel

As I was saying earlier, the VAMO V3 isn’t the best looking mod on the market, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a J-Wrap. I ended up getting the Black Chrome version. I thought it was a little less unattractive than the Chrome. I, like most others, really wonder what the designer was thinking when he came up with the new design.

The VAMO V3 is LARGE. If you’re not used to a mod, then you’ll be in for a surprise. Then, when you add a ViVi Nova Tank on it, it’s going to be even longer. It’s definitely not something you’re going to want to carry around with you everywhere.

Another thing about the VAMO V3 is that it’s quite heavy. Even the body by itself is heavy. Once you add a battery it gets even heavier. I don’t really mind that. I happen to like knowing it’s there in my hand. I’m really impressed with the buttons on the V3. They are nice and “clicky” in both feel and sound. You definitely know when you have a button depressed.

Menu System

To get into the menu, you simply press the + and – buttons for a few seconds. The + button cycles through the main menu options. The – button cycles through sub-menu items. There are 3 main options:

  1. Power / Voltage Output
  2. LCD Display
  3. LCD On/Off

Menu 1 lets you choose what type of output you want. Menu 2 lets you choose what you want to display on the LCD screen while the fire button is pressed. You can choose from Resistance, Battery, and Power. Menu 3 simply turns the LCD Screen On or Off.

Vapor Production

The VAMO V3 is a Variable Voltage / Variable Wattage mod. I’m fairly new to Variable Wattage, but it’s definitely the future of mods. With the right atomizer and wattage setting, this device can produce clouds of vapor. The VAMO V3 brings out a lot of flavor in some e-liquids that aren’t quite there at 3.7V.

Price is one of the best things about the VAMO V3. It’s the most affordable VV/VW mod available. I picked up mine as a kit from FastTech. The kit came with the VAMO V3, Nitecore I2 Battery Charger, and 2 18650 Batteries all for around $55. The only catch is that it does come from China. I’m not one who would usually order anything from China, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. The shipping time is a little long, but I was kind of expecting that. Overall, my shipping time was around 2 weeks. Not too bad considering it was coming from Hong Kong.
